Elementary School Principal, Dr. Cindy Gause-Vega, awarded National Distinguished Princapls Award by the US State Department
Dear ISP Community,
I am very happy and proud to announce that our very own Dr. Cindy Gause-Vega, ISP Elementary Principal, has been selected as a National Distinguished Principal from the State Department Assisted Overseas Schools. Dr. Vega will represent the Overseas Schools as one of two international award winners.
The two winners will be flown to Washington for recognition programs to be held in October 2011. In addition to the various meetings, there will be a reception held at the Department of State Diplomatic Reception Rooms and then a dinner dance at the Hilton Hotel in Washington.
This is of course a great honor not only for Dr. Vega who richly deserves this recognition, but is a wonderful reflection on how highly ISP is regarded by the international educational community.
Congratulations Dr. Vega!
Warm regards,
Arnie Bieber Director
April 2nd: Intrepid runners complete the Prague Half-Marathon and raise funds for VIA Nadace
After months of rigorous training, three ISP US students completed the Prague Half-Marathon (21 km) through downtown Prague with 9500 other runners.
They were led by US teacher Shannon Leggett, who reported: "The girls did PHENOMENALLY well, finishing between 2:15 hrs and 2:35, and in an incredible 20+ degree heat! I did it in 1:46 (9th in my age category, 114th for women :-)). One of the girls called this a "bucket list" accomplishment (ie. one of the things one can check off for having done in one's life). The girls also raised 3000 krowns for The Via Foundation, which kindly sponsored our run (the race sold out early and we had not registered!) - thanks to Marlene Hermann '08 and her family for putting us in touch with The Via Foundation. In the photo, from left to right, are Anna B. '13, Faye R. '12, Marie L. '21 (serving as cheerleader and hydration specialist), Shannon Leggett and Mili R. '12."

Visit to ISP by the Palestinian Ambassador to the Czech Republic
March 1st: Representatives from the Palestinian and Israeli Embassies in Prague accepted ISP's invitation to talk to students and the community regarding the Arab-Israeli conflict. This video shows the entire presentation made by the Palestinian Ambassador to the Czech Republic, Mr. Mohammed Al-Salaymeh, on March 1st 2011. The topics discussed were: the borders of a Palestinian state, the security barrier, and the status of Jerusalem. Students stated that the event allowed them to have far more in-depth thoughts and discussions regarding these issues. Many thanks to Robert Bohat for organizing this event, and Kunal S. for videotaping. The Israeli Ambassador will be presenting to ISP at a later date.
Note: the sound quality of the recording is not superb; you may need a set of headphones to really pick up everything.
